Research on cyberpaedophilia in 'De Ideale Wereld'

Our research on the detection of cyberpaedophilia that attracted quite some press attention recently, now also featured in the humoristic-informative tv-show De Ideale Wereld [The Ideal World].

The video below shows their amusing parody of a 'grooming' conversation between an older man and a young girl where the focus lies on their language use.

ComAComA Workshop at COLING


CLiPS is co-organizing the ComAComA workshop on computational approaches to compound processing which will be held at COLING 2014 on the 23rd or 24th of August in Dublin.

The workshop is intended as an interdisciplinary platform for researchers working on compound processing in different languages, to present recent and ongoing work.

On February 14th 2014, Oydis Hide succesfully defended her PhD thesis "Acoustic features of speech by young cochlear implant users".

Research visit by Andrea Ravignani

CLiPS welcomes Andrea Ravignani for a two-week research visit.

Andrea is a PhD researcher at the Department of Cognitive Biology of the University of Vienna. His research lies at the intersection of evolution, cognition, linguistics and musicology.
The aim of his visit is to learn from CLiPS' expertise with the use of machine learning techniques.


Colloquium on patterning skills for music and language (Andrea Ravignani)

This Friday, January 24th, Andrea Ravignani (University of Vienna) will be our  CLiPS Colloquium guest speaker.

Participation is free, but registration is required.


CLiPS is host of CLIN 2015

At the end of the 24th CLIN conference today, Walter Daelemans announced that the next, 25th edition (yes, a jubilee edition) of CLIN will be hosted by CLiPS in Antwerp, early in 2015.

Prediction of Time's Person of the Year 2013

Later today, international magazine Time will announce its Person of the Year 2013. Mike Kestemont (CLiPS, UAntwerpen) and colleagues from Radboud University Nijmegen, Meertens Institute and University of Illinois have already predicted a top 10 of possible laureates.
